As planned and promised, the new release of Backdrop CMS arrived in the early hours of today (UK time) and I have immediately installed it on this site. The update went without a hitch, so here we are, thinking about what comes next.
Will you see any difference? The answer is no, unless you are a site administrator. What has been changed quite dramatically and helpfully is the appearance of the administrative pages. These changes make Backdrop yet more easy to use than its parent Drupal 7. I like them, but I'm biased because in very small ways I have contributed to the changes. I congratulate our Backdrop co-founders Jen Lampton and Nate Haug, and the whole team, on all they have done to achieve this.
With an increasing number of useful 'contributed modules' Backdrop is ready for serious use in production websites. There is an exciting programme of work in progress to add yet more useful functionality. For me two of the best things about working on this project are the prompt consideration given to all suggestions for change, and the adherence to the promised release dates. I am very impressed.
